Jieshou, founded in the Northern Song Dynasty, was named because of its location at the junction of Gaoyou and Baoying. It is a national ecological town, the hometown of Chinese poetry, a famous cultural heritage town in Jiangsu Province, as well as a renowned tourist attraction.
It is easily accessible through the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal on its west, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail on its east, the Lianyungang-Huai’an-Yangzhou-Zhenjiang express rail, and the G233 national route which runs through the town. The high-speed and express trains have designated stops in Jieshou.
Rich cultural heritage
Gaoyou is home to the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal Port, which is a World Heritage Site, and the provincial cultural preservation unit, the “Former Site of Huazhong Xuefeng University”. Other city-level cultural units in the township include Huguo Temple, the former site of the Qing Dynasty Post Office, historical exhibition hall etc. More than a thousand meters of well-preserved ancient streets could be found winding through the town, including the Nanbei Street and Taiping Street etc.

Beside its Gaoyou Lake Reeds Wetland Park and Lianbiao Grape-Picking and Sightseeing Park, Gaoyou is also well known for producing Jiangsu Province's intangible cultural heritage such as the Jieshou Tea and Gaoyou Lake Hairy Crabs.
